Ever wonder why some swim skills click right away while others take a little more practice? 🤔
Learning to swim involves a LOT of different skills, and they don't always come together at the same time! Every swimmer has their own strengths, challenges, and timeline. 🩵💪
Our newest blog breaks down why some swim skills come easier than others and how you can support your child's progress along the way!
Head to the blog to read more!

Consider this your sign… 👀🍂
If you’ve been thinking about signing your child up for swim lessons, this is it!
Fall is such a great time to start. There’s no summer rush, and your swimmer has time to build confidence, work on new skills, and keep making progress before next summer rolls around.
So… what are you waiting for? Get started today! 🏊♂️🩵🙌
🌟 September Instructor of the Month: Katie 🌟
Katie is one of our amazing Head Instructors and a Level 1 Certified Swim Whisperer who teaches adaptive swim lessons at our Greenville location. She’s always willing to jump in and help wherever she’s needed, and she has such a gift for encouraging her swimmers to be brave, try new things, and achieve skills they may not have thought they could do!
We’re so lucky to have Katie on our team. Thank you for all you do, Katie! 🏊♀️🩵🙌
Tip Tuesday: Breath Control! 🫧
Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles! They’re more important than you might think. Learning breath control is a BIG part of becoming a confident swimmer, so we build this skill step-by-step. 🙌
First, we practice exhaling above the water. Then, we move to blowing bubbles with the mouth. Once they’ve got that down, we work on blowing bubbles through the nose… and this one can be a little trickier.
Want to help your kid practice at home? Try:
👃 Having them pretend to blow their nose
🎶 Tell them to hum! Humming naturally sends air out through the nose. You can make it extra fun by having them hum a favorite song!
A little practice goes a long way! 🫧🏊♂️
🌟 Swimmer Spotlight: Tate! 🌟
Tate is 3 years old and, safe to say, he’s a little fish! 🐠
He started his very first lesson a little hesitant, but by lessons #2 and #3, he was putting his eyes in the water and beginning to swim independently!
He LOVES retrieving toys from the bottom of the pool and, in just 8 lessons, Tate accomplished all of his water safety and self-rescue skills! 🙌🩵
And to top it all off, he was an amazing listener throughout his lessons. Way to go, Tate! 🏊♂️👏
🚨 BIG NEWS, SWIM FAMILIES! 🚨
We’re SO excited to officially announce that Adaptive Swim Lessons are now part of Swim Lessons with Mary! 🙌
Every swimmer deserves to feel safe, confident, and successful in the water. Sometimes that means approaching lessons a little differently.
Our adaptive lessons are:
💧1-on-1 and individualized
💧Built around each swimmer’s unique needs
💧Adapted to their learning style and comfort level
💧Focused on water safety, confidence, and independence
💧Taught by instructors with specialized Swim Whisperers® training
We’re sharing all about our new program, why adaptive lessons are so important, and what parents can expect in our newest blog!
There’s no one-size-fits-all swimmer, so why should there be one-size-fits-all lessons? 🏊♂️🩵
Tip Tuesday: Don’t give up! 🩵
We often hear, “I’m worried swim lessons aren’t a good fit for my child.”
But tears don’t mean they can’t do it! Kids are incredibly resilient, they just need time to adjust. Work with your instructor to find what helps: a special toy, a fun pre-lesson routine, or whatever makes your child feel more comfortable.
Most importantly, stick with it! Learning to swim is important, but so is learning that even when something is hard, you can do hard things. 💪🏊♂️
🎥 Behind the scenes with Mr. Mark!
Building strong swimmers is about more than just learning strokes, it’s about building endurance, confidence, and real-life safety skills! 💪
In this lesson, Mr. Mark and his student are practicing a long-distance swim while also working on an important survival skill: rolling to his back to take a break and float when he needs to rest.
Way to go! 👏 We love seeing our swimmers put these life saving skills into practice! 🏊♂️🩵
☀️ August Instructor of the Month: Marin! ☀️
Marin was such a bright spot on our team this summer! She was amazing with communication, especially on those unpredictable weather days, and was always willing to jump in and help with makeup lessons. 🏊♂️🩵
She’s truly a ray of sunshine, and we’re so proud to have her on our summer team! Congrats, Marin! 🎉
Always learning, always growing! 🩵💪
At SLWM, we’re committed to continually improving our skills and our team so we can provide the highest-quality lessons possible. One
way we do that? Monthly in-services! 🙌
Recently, our team came together for an in-person training focused on refining our skills in teaching infant swim lessons.
Tip Tuesday: Back to School Consistency ✏️📚🚌
As school gets back into full swing, it’s easy to think of swim lessons as just another after-school activity to fit into the schedule. But swimming is different. It’s a lifelong skill, and one that could save your child’s life.
So even when life gets busy, keep making swim lessons a priority. Consistency builds confidence, skills, and water safety that last far beyond childhood. 🏊♂️🩵
Help us celebrate Haley and Denielle on their one-year anniversary with SLWM! 🥳
🩵 Haley brings so much joy and sunshine to every lesson at our Greenville location. She’s also a Level 1 Certified Adaptive Swim Whisperer, bringing her expertise, patience, and heart to every swimmer she teaches.
🩵 Denielle teaches at our Spartanburg location and has an incredible way of gently pushing swimmers outside their comfort zones while still making them feel safe and supported. She also brings phenomenal experience teaching adaptive lessons to our team!
We’re so lucky to have both of these incredible instructors on our team. Thank you, Haley and Denielle, for an amazing first year! Here’s to many more!
📢 Kroc Families: IMPORTANT REMINDER!
Starting TODAY, August 17, ALL Kroc lessons will be held at Hollingsworth Pool Club while the Kroc Center pool is closed for annual maintenance.
📍 Hollingsworth Pool Club
204 Verdae Crest Dr.
Greenville, SC 29607
This applies to ALL Kroc lessons, both flexible & recurring, August 17–21.
If you have a lesson this week, please head to Hollingsworth instead of the Kroc Center!
We’ll see you at the pool! 🏊♂️🩵🙌
🌟 Swimmer Spotlight: Kendall! 🌟
This summer, 4-year-old Kendall joined us for Summer Travel Lessons in Charlotte, and she absolutely crushed it! 💪🩵
She’s been working hard on her backstroke and side breathing for freestyle, while also mastering some BIG water safety skills like jumping in and getting back to the wall, floating on her back and rolling to swim, and climbing out of the pool all by herself! We’re so proud of Kendall and all the progress she made this summer!
And a big thank you to ALL of our Summer Travel swimmers for swimming with us. We hope to see you back in the water at one of our year-round locations! 🏊♂️
👂 TIP TUESDAY: Listening ears around water!
One of the most important things we teach at swim lessons isn’t just how to swim, it’s how to be a safe swimmer. That means learning to listen to a trusted adult around water.
We teach our swimmers to:
💧Ask before getting in
💧Ask before jumping, diving, or trying something new
💧Stop and listen when an adult gives a safety direction
Parents, this is a great one to double down on at home, too! The more consistently kids practice these habits, the more natural they become.
Swimming skills are important, but knowing when to stop, listen, and ask first is a water-safety skill, too. 🩵🏊♂️
🎉 Help us wish Zac a very happy (early) birthday!
Zac's birthday is coming up on August 17, and we're so thankful to have him on the SLWM team! His positive attitude, dedication, and passion for teaching make a difference in the lives of so many swimmers each week.
Be sure to wish Zac a happy birthday if you see him at the pool! 🥳🩵
Myth or fact?
❌ Floaties keep kids safe.
❌ Shallow water isn't dangerous.
❌ "Dry drowning" is a real diagnosis.
If you've heard any of these, you're not alone, but they're not the whole story.
We just published a new blog separating water safety facts from fiction so you can feel more confident keeping your family safe around the water. 🩵🏊♂️
Hi, there's a good chance you've seen me around the pool or behind the screen, so I thought it was time to officially say hello! 👋🩵
I'm Adrianna, the Social Media Coordinator and one of the Head Instructors here at Swim Lessons with Mary! I've been part of the SLWM team for the past three years, and I love getting to teach lessons, train new instructors, and share all the fun happening in our SLWM community.
I'm so excited to connect with you all and give you a little peek behind the scenes. Thanks for being here, I can't wait to see you on deck! 🏊♀️🙌
We had such a great time at @kidaroundsc Biggest Baseball Bash! ⚾🎉
A huge thank you to the Kidding Around Greenville team for being such awesome partners and putting together another fun community event. We loved getting to meet so many local families, chat about water safety, and cheer everyone on at our duck racing game! 🦆
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth to say hi. We had an absolute blast and can't wait to see you all again soon!

🎉 July Instructor of the Month: Kimmie! 🎉
A huge congratulations to Kimmie for being our July Instructor of the Month! 🏊🩵
Kimmie, thank you for the care, patience, and positivity you bring to every lesson. Your dedication to helping swimmers build confidence and life-saving skills doesn't go unnoticed, and we're so grateful to have you on the SLWM team!
Join us in celebrating Kimmie in the comments and thank her for all of her hard work! 🙌
Our SLWM community has grown because of amazing families like you, and we couldn't be more grateful. If you know someone who's been thinking about swim lessons, now's the perfect time to send them our way! 🫶

As we're wrapping up July we want to make sure to celebrate one of our awesome instructors, Mark! 🥳
His birthday was earlier this month, and we wanted to take a moment to wish him a very happy birthday and thank him for everything he does for our swimmers and team.
Help us show Mark some birthday love in the comments! 🩵🎉
💡 Tip Tuesday: Building Balance!
Learning to balance in the water is one of the biggest milestones for new swimmers! Maintaining a horizontal body position takes practice, just like learning to balance on a bike.
That's why we use "training wheels" like noodles or swim backpacks to help swimmers build core control and proper body position while still getting to feel more independent in the water.
Unlike puddle jumpers, these tools encourage good technique instead of keeping kids upright, restricting arm movement, and creating false confidence in the water.
Building real water confidence starts with learning to balance. 🏊♂️🩵🙌
We are so lucky to be celebrating 3 years of Adrianna on the SLWM team! 🎉
Adrianna brings so much heart to the pool each day. Thank you for everything you do for our swimmers and staff every day, and for all the behind-the-scenes work keeping our marketing running smoothly. 🩵
📢 Kroc Families!
A quick heads-up: The Kroc Center pool will be closed for annual maintenance August 17–21. During that week, all Kroc lessons (flexible & recurring) will be held at Hollingsworth Pool Club:
204 Verdae Crest Dr., Greenville, SC 29607
⏰ Reminder: August flexible lessons open for booking tomorrow at 7:00 AM! If you're booking Greenville flexible lessons for August 17–21, please keep the temporary location change to Hollingsworth Pool Club in mind when choosing your lesson times.
We can't wait to see you in the pool! 🏊💙
Progress isn't always as obvious as swimming across the pool. 🏊♂️

🌟 Swimmer Spotlight: Rylee! 🌟
At just 4 years old, Rylee has been working so hard during her swim lessons, and it really shows. She's an intermediate swimmer who's been building her endurance, practicing all of her water safety skills, and gaining more confidence with every lesson.
Watching her grow into such a strong, capable swimmer has been so rewarding. We couldn't be prouder of all the hard work you've been putting in, Rylee! Keep it up, we can't wait to see what you accomplish next! 💪🩵🏊♀️
🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July Weekend! 🇺🇸
We hope everyone has a fun, relaxing weekend celebrating with family and friends!
Just a quick reminder that we're closed for lessons today so our instructors can enjoy the holiday with their loved ones. We'll be back in the pool soon!
If you're spending time at the pool, lake, or beach this weekend, here are a few simple ways to help keep everyone safe:
🩵 Keep kids within arm's reach whenever they're in or around the water.
👀 Pick at least one adult to be the designated "Water Watcher." Put the phone away and give the water your full attention.
🛟 If you're boating or have a newer swimmer, make sure they're wearing a properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket.
☀️ Don't forget the sunscreen, drink plenty of water, and take breaks from the heat.
🚫 And remember, pool floats are fun, but they're never a substitute for adult supervision.
We hope your weekend is full of laughter, good food, fireworks, and safe swimming. Have a wonderful 4th of July, and we'll see you back at lessons soon!
Meet Instructor Zac! 👋🏊♂️
We're so excited to have Zac on the SLWM team, and he's now accepting bookings this month! Get to know him some more down below! 👇
💧What got you into swimming?
"I started swimming after my asthma made it difficult to keep playing football in 5th grade. Once I got in the pool, I had no trouble breathing and quickly fell in love with the sport."
🏊 Experience:
"I've been teaching for about five years and have worked with both children and adults across all skill levels."
🩵 Why SLWM?
"I'm excited to be part of the team because of the amazing staff and the beautiful mission to help teach people to swim and reduce the drowning statistics."
🎮 Fun fact: When he's not teaching, you'll probably find him lifting weights or playing video games!
Help us give Zac a warm welcome in the comments! 🫶
💙 June Instructor of the Month: Mia! 💙
We're so excited to celebrate Mia this month!
As soon as she got back for summer break, she jumped right back into lessons. Whether it's covering lessons or helping out another instructor, she's always willing to step up.
We're so grateful to have you back for another summer, Mia. Thank you for everything you do and for always showing up for your swimmers, their families, and our team.
Happy 2nd summer with Swim Lessons with Mary! We appreciate you so much. 💙🏊
🧠🏊♂️ Can swimming make kids smarter?
Our newest blog post dives into the surprising cognitive benefits of swim lessons, from helping children build focus and problem-solving skills to supporting language development and confidence both in and out of the pool.
Swimming is more than just water safety. It’s whole-child development. 🩵
As SLWM continues to grow, I wanted to take a moment to officially introduce myself! 👋🩵
Hi, I’m Alex, the Aquatics Coordinator at Swim Lessons with Mary. I’ve been part of the SLWM family for several years, and I’m so grateful to help support our amazing swimmers, families, and instructors every day.
Helping families build confidence and gain lifesaving swim skills is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. I hope you enjoy getting to know a little more about me, and I can’t wait to see you on deck soon! 🏊♀️
A huge shoutout to everyone who recently took their very first swim lesson with us! 🙌
No matter your age, skill level, or comfort in the water, taking that first step is something to celebrate.
There’s no perfect time to start, so don’t wait. If you've been thinking about swim lessons, consider this your sign: take the first step today. 🏊♀️🩵

Our top 5 horror movies…swim instructor addition! 😨
While some things just can’t be controlled, like pop up thunderstorms, others can be. You play a large roll in your child’s water safety. By implementing safety measures like fences around your backyard pool, not using puddle jumpers, and getting your child into swim lessons, you’re helping to reduce their risk of drowning significantly!
What are some of your swimming related horror movies?

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Swim for Hope fundraiser! 🙌
Because of your generosity, we raised $2,897, enough to provide 75–100 one-on-one swim lessons for children in our community who may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn this life-saving skill. 🏊♂️
We'd also like to give a special congratulations to Mark, who was the instructor that helped raise the most funds during this fundraiser! Thank you, Mark, for going above and beyond to support this mission.
We're so grateful for our amazing community and the impact we're making together. 🩵💪

It may have been a rainy start, but we loved seeing our swimmers show up ready to learn and have fun. The weather is looking much better next week, and we're so excited for all that's ahead.
This summer is already off to a great start! 🩵
This month we're celebrating two amazing milestones! 🎉
Renzie is celebrating 3 years with Swim Lessons with Mary, and Mark is celebrating 1 year! We're so grateful for the care, dedication, and positive energy they bring to our swimmers and families every day.
Thank you both for being such an important part of the SLWM team! 🩵🏊♂️
Today is Katie T’s last day teaching with Swim Lessons with Mary. While we are so sad to see her go, we are incredibly excited for her as she steps away for a time to pursue other passion projects here in the Upstate. We wish her nothing but happiness and success in this next chapter. 🩵
Katie has made such a lasting impact on so many students and families during her time with SLWM. Her kindness, encouragement, patience, and joyful spirit brought confidence and smiles to every lesson she taught. She will truly be missed by all of us. 🏊♂️
Thankfully, this isn’t goodbye forever, just goodbye for now. Katie promises to keep in touch and share updates along the way, and we can’t wait to cheer her on in all that’s ahead.
A message from Katie:
“Thank you for making the last year and a half so rewarding. I’ll definitely miss all of the students. I’m so very proud of all of their accomplishments! Thank you for bringing so much joy and fun into my life. Keep shining bright, and believing in yourself!” ✨
Thank you for the time, love, and care you poured into our team and swimmers!
Did you know you can now donate your makeup credits to support our Swim for Hope fundraiser? 🩵
Swim for Hope benefits the Hope Floats Foundation, a nonprofit that helps provide swim lesson scholarships for local families in need. Because swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by up to 88%, every donation helps give children access to lifesaving water safety skills.
Families may now donate up to 2 makeup credits toward the fundraiser!
To participate, simply message us:
💧 Whether you’d like to donate 1 or 2 makeup credits

So many new faces here! I am long over due for an introduction and some exciting news ✨
Thank you for being here and being a part of Swim Lessons with Mary. So many of you have been here since the beginning of my journey that started almost 14 years ago. I’m so grateful for your support. It’s a dream come true. I wouldn’t be able to leave my corporate job after 6 years of bootstrapping without my amazing team and each of you. I’m finally full time on SLWM and fully dedicated to our mission. Let’s end drowning and bring on the best 1-on-1 swim lesson experience to our community! 💪🏼
If you’re interested in more behind the scenes and backstory, I’ll be sharing more on @maryyvjones ✨
💦 Tip Tuesday: Eliminate Potential Pool Dangers This Season 💦
One simple way to make your pool safer? Remove pool floaties when they’re not actively being used. Floaties left in the water can block visibility and make it harder to see if someone is underneath or in distress.
When the pool is not in use, be sure to:
✅ Put away pool floaties
✅ Remove toys from the pool
✅ Keep the pool area clear and safe
Leaving toys in the pool may tempt a child to try to retrieve them, which can quickly lead to an accident.
A few small habits can make a big difference in preventing water emergencies. Stay safe this pool season, and follow us for more swim safety tips! ☀️🏊

Kicking off the summer season today downtown at Swamp Rabbit Cafe! 🐇☕️
So grateful for this incredible team and all the fun ahead. We can’t wait to swim with everyone all summer long! 🏊♂️🩵 We missed our instructors who couldn’t be there but more celebrating to come!

Happy early Birthday to our amazing instructor, Jacob! 🥳🙌
Jacob’s birthday is this weekend, and we’re so grateful for the energy, patience, and encouragement he brings to every lesson. From helping swimmers build confidence to making lessons fun, he’s such an important part of the SLWM family! 🏊🩵
Be sure to send Jacob all the birthday cheers and celebratory vibes this weekend! 🎉
Don’t catch your kid! The best thing you can teach them in the water is independence. What will they do in an emergency if you are not there to catch them? Every toddler should know: back floats, swim-float-swim, turn and grab wall and how to monkey hands down the wall to safety or climb out on their own.
It only takes seconds.
No splash. No scream. No warning.
Drowning is the leading causes of accidental death for children ages 1–4, and many parents don’t realize how silent it really is until it’s too late.
Our newest blog breaks down the 5 layers of protection that help prevent drowning and why swim lessons can make a lifesaving difference.
This is the kind of information every parent should know, especially before summer is in full swing. 🩵

🩵🏊♀️ Swim for Hope is HERE! 🏊♂️🩵
Swim Lessons with Mary is proud to be fundraising again for Hope Floats, a nonprofit that connects low-income families to high quality swim lessons through scholarships.
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn lifesaving swim skills. Drowning is the #1 cause of death for children ages 1–4, and together we can help change that right here in the Upstate of SC.
Here’s the fun part 👀👇
You can pledge your support to your FAVORITE SLWM instructor as they compete to see who can raise the most donations!
Ways to donate:
💧 Give a one-time donation
💧 Pledge an amount per lap swam by your instructor of choice
Every dollar raised goes directly toward swim lesson scholarships for families applying through Hope Floats to swim with Swim Lessons with Mary.
No amount is too small, and every share, donation, and word of encouragement helps us work toward a safer community. 🫶

Let’s make this a safe, strong, and confident swim season together. 🏊♀️
It’s Stella’s last week with SLWM! 🥹🩵
Stella has meant so much to our team, always an incredible instructor, patient, encouraging, and truly dedicated to every swimmer she worked with. She didn’t just teach skills, she built confidence, trust, and a love for the water in so many kids.
We are so grateful for the impact she’s made, and we know her swimmers (and their families!) feel the same.
As she heads into her final year of college and begins her journey toward a career in the medical field and PA school, we couldn’t be more proud. They are lucky to have her, just like we were.
We’ll miss you, Stella! 🫶
🎉 3 years of Katie P. 🎉
We are so lucky to have Katie on our team! With years of experience and a true gift for connecting with swimmers, she knows just how to encourage, challenge, and celebrate every step of progress.
As one of our Head Instructors and an Adaptive Swim Whisperers Level 1 Certified instructor through Swim Angelfish, Katie brings patience, skill, and heart to every lesson she teaches. 🫶
Our swimmers are stronger and more confident because of you, Katie. We’re so grateful for all you do! 🏊♀️🩵🙌
Everything hallelujah when we swim with you! 🩵🏊♂️
🎉 April Birthday Shoutout! 🎉
We’re celebrating two amazing members of our SLWM team this month!
Happy (belated) birthday to Katie T, who celebrated on April 6th! Katie is one of our incredible instructors serving both Greenville and Spartanburg families. We’re so grateful for the care, patience, and fun she brings to every lesson.
And happy birthday to Adrianna, celebrating today! As one of our head instructors and our social media coordinator, Adrianna helps to keep things running smoothly both in and out of the water. We appreciate everything you do to support our swimmers and our community!
Join us in wishing them both the best birthday month ever! 🥳🩵🙌
Tip Tuesday: Choosing the Right Swim Lesson Location 🏊♂️
Did you know we offer four different lesson options so you can pick what fits your swimmer best? Here’s a quick breakdown to help you decide:
💧Kroc Center (Greenville)
Our largest location with the most availability! Great for all ages and skill levels. Lap lanes make it ideal for swim team prep, plus deeper water (up to 6’3”) for jumps, starts, and treading. Bonus: zero-entry area for easy access for those who need it!
💧Doctor For Life (Mauldin)

✨ Instructor of the Month: Stella ✨
Stella is always showing up with curiosity and heart. She asks thoughtful questions, looks for new ways to better support her swimmers, and is constantly learning so she can give each child the best experience possible. Her dedication to growth and problem-solving has made such a meaningful impact on our families. 🩵
As this is Stella’s final month with us, we want to take a moment to say how grateful we are for the past 2 years. You’ve helped so many swimmers build confidence, learn life-saving skills, and feel proud in the water, and that’s something that lasts far beyond the pool.
We will miss you so much, Stella, and we’re cheering you on in what’s next! 🥹🙌
If Stella has made a difference in your swimmer’s journey, we’d love for you to drop a comment and share some love below. ⬇️

💡 Tip Tuesday: Goggles = Confidence!
Goggles help kids feel more comfortable and confident in the water, especially when learning skills like putting their face in and blowing bubbles. When they can see clearly, they’re more willing to try! 🥽🩵🙌
What’s even better? Letting your child pick out their own fun style can help boost excitement for their swim lessons!
👉 Pro Tip: We recommend goggles that cover the eyes only (not full face masks). Masks can make it harder to learn important skills like breath control and blowing bubbles through the nose, key for water safety and staying calm in the water. 🌊

The biggest thing affecting your child’s swim progress… isn’t happening in the lesson 👀
It’s the small things outside of it.
Good news? A few simple shifts can make a BIG difference! 🙌🏊♂️🩵

🎉 Celebrating Our Amazing Team 🎉
This month, we’re so excited to celebrate TWO incredible SLWM team members hitting major milestones with us!
🩵 Alex, our Aquatics Coordinator, is celebrating 3 years with SLWM! From keeping things running smoothly to supporting our families and instructors, we truly couldn’t do what we do without her.
💛 Stella is celebrating 2 years with SLWM! She teaches at our Spartanburg location and brings her passion on the road each summer with our Charlotte travel lessons. Her energy and care for every swimmer shines through in everything she does.
We are so grateful for both of you and the impact you make every single day in our swim community 🫶🏊♂️

One of the biggest keys to a strong backstroke? Keeping the head still and relaxed.
💧Eyes up
💧Ears in the water
💧No chin tucking or lifting
When swimmers keep their head steady, their hips stay up, their body stays aligned, and everything feels smoother (and straighter!). Moving your head can cause your body to twist, making you swim crooked instead of straight down the lane.
✨ Try these:
• Balance a small toy on your swimmer’s forehead and keep it from falling off
• Pick a spot on the ceiling and “watch it” the whole time you swim
• Imagine your head is glued in place while your arms and legs do the work
Small adjustments, make a BIG difference! 🙌🩵

🌟 Instructor of the Month: Denielle 🌟
We’re so excited to celebrate Denielle as our March Instructor of the Month! Since joining our team just a few months ago, she has already made an incredible impact at our Spartanburg location.
Denielle consistently goes above and beyond for her clients, like bringing in special equipment to each lesson to keep swimmers motivated, engaged, and progressing. Her creativity and dedication truly set her apart! 🫶
She’s also an amazing communicator, keeping families informed and encouraged every step of the way. In fact, one client even told us she “deserves a raise” (we love to hear it! 😂).
Thank you, Denielle, for your hard work, heart, and commitment to your swimmers. We’re so lucky to have you on the team! 🙌🩵🏊♂️

If your little one has ever cried at the start of a swim lesson, you’re not alone. For many children, lessons may be the first time being handed to a new adult in a new environment, and that can feel like a big change. 🩵
The good news? With the right approach, most kids adjust quickly and grow more confident in the water.
👉 Swipe through for 6 simple tips that can help ease swim lesson separation anxiety and make drop-offs smoother for both you and your swimmer.
Want to learn why separation anxiety happens and how to support your child through it? We dive deeper into the topic in this month’s blog post, including research-backed insights and guidance for parents.

Remember, a few tears at the beginning are often just part of the adjustment. Confidence in the water (and independence!) takes time, and we’re here to support both you and your swimmer every step of the way. 🫶🏊♂️

What an unforgettable few days at the @usswimschool Conference at @thebroadmoor in beautiful Colorado Springs! 🏊♂️🩵🏔️
Our leadership team spent three incredible days learning, growing, and connecting,
from inspiring keynote speakers and powerful round table discussions to hands-on workshops packed with ideas we can’t wait to bring home. Being surrounded by other passionate leaders who care deeply about safety, growth, and excellence reminded us why we love what we do every single day. 🫶
We even squeezed in a little adventure time! Exploring the breathtaking Garden of the Gods and visiting the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo made the experience even more special. Colorado did not disappoint! 🏔️🦒
We left feeling energized, inspired, and more committed than ever to elevating the Swim Lessons With Mary experience. Everything we learned is fueling new ideas to serve our families better, strengthen our team, and continue teaching lifesaving swim skills in a fun, safe, and trusted environment.

💦 Tip Tuesday: Goggles & Growing Confidence 💦
Goggles can be a great tool during swim lessons! They help swimmers feel more comfortable putting their face in the water, seeing clearly, and building confidence as they learn new skills. 🙌
That said… we always make sure swimmers also practice important self-rescue skills without goggles. Why? Because in a real-life water situation, goggles may not be on and safety skills should work anytime, anywhere.
It’s also totally normal for goggles to feel like a learning curve at first. For many kids, especially our more sensory-sensitive swimmers, goggles can feel tight, distracting, or overwhelming.
Our tips for success:
💧Choose goggles that fit comfortably (not too tight!)
💧Let your child help pick them out so they feel excited about wearing them
💧Practice wearing them around the house
💧Try them in the bathtub to get used to the feeling before lessons
The more familiar they feel, the more confident your swimmer will be when it’s time to hop in the pool! As always, our goal is safety first, while keeping lessons fun and encouraging every step of the way! 🩵🏊♂️

🚓The Puddle Police are on duty!🚨
Puddle Jumpers may look like a safe choice, but they can actually interfere with how kids learn to float, move, and swim independently. From body position to arm movement to skill regression, what kids wear in the water matters more than many parents realize.
Curious why? We break it all down in our latest blog 👇

The sweetest full-circle moment! How special that on the 6th anniversary of SLWM’s official incorporation, we got to celebrate at the @kidaroundsc Kaboom Awards 🥇1st place for Best Place to Splash or Swim and a finalist for Best Sports Program.
This recognition belongs to my incredible team. Their hard work, heart, and dedication every single day is what got us here. I’m so proud of the way they show up for our swimmers, for each other, and for our mission to make our community safer and to end drowning through personalized, 1-1 instruction.
I’m SO thankful for the families who have cheered us on along the way. What makes this moment even more meaningful is knowing this dream didn’t start six years ago, it started when I was 15, teaching hundreds of students on my own and building the foundation for everything SLWM is today. None of this would be possible if it weren’t for the amazing swimmers and families that have supported SLWM over the past 13 years. We’re just getting started and I’m so happy that you’re all a part of this journey 🩵 God is good!!!
🌟Swimmer Spotlight: Charlotte 🌟
She’s found her spark in the water and now there’s no stopping her! 💪💦
When Charlotte first started lessons, she was timid and full of fear. She wouldn’t jump in and didn’t want to put her face in the water. But now? She’s swimming short distances independently with her face in the water, doing big jumps all by herself, and working hard to master her back float! 🎉
Her confidence has skyrocketed, and we couldn’t be prouder of how far she’s come. Join us in cheering her on! 🩵🙌

That first moment a child lets go of the wall…
That deep breath before going underwater…
That smile when they realize: “I did it!”
Swim lessons build more than swimming ability, they build confidence, courage, resilience, and independence. 🩵🙌

Tip Tuesday: Consistency is Key! 🔑🏊♂️
Even just 30 minutes a week can make a big difference in your swimmer’s confidence, comfort and safety in the water. Regular lessons help kids build skills faster and retain them longer, especially after winter breaks!
We offer recurring lessons to help your child learn with the same instructor, on the same day and time each week, creating a routine that builds trust and progress. 🩵
Busy schedule? No worries! Our flexible lesson booking option still makes it easy to fit in weekly lessons on your time! 🙌
Whether your child is just starting or picking up where they left off, SLWM is here to guide their journey, one lesson at a time.

🌟 Swimmer Spotlight: Oliver! 🌟
Oliver’s been working hard on pushing off into the water, swimming independently, and rolling onto his back when he gets tired, and he’s absolutely crushing it! 💪💦
We’re so proud of his progress and how brave he’s becoming in the water. Go, Oliver! 🏊♂️👏
